Detailed description of Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, Highlands
Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is a Resort 36 hole golf facility located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The facility has two championship 18-hole golf courses. They are The Highlands Course and The Brute Course.
The two courses were originally part of the Hugh Hefner Playboy Club.
The Highlands course first opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus. Bob Cupp completed a redesign of this course in 1997, completely revamping it into its current links-style design.
The Highlands Course is one of the first Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus creations that feature Scottish influences throughout its design. There are heather-type roughs and large bunkers protecting the borders of the fairways.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,633 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,038 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 11, a par-5 that plays to 594 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 17, a par-3 that plays to 150 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, a 549-yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 17, a 150 yard par-3.
Another difficult hole is #11, a 594-yard, par 5, which features a double dogleg fairway and a series of sand bunkers sitting in the fairway ready to snatch your tee shot.

This course offered fun golf in a traditional layout that incorporated the natural terrain and foilage into play. More than once you find yourself stopping to take another look at the hole you are about to play or looking back to where you just where and finding a moment of "wow". Though not the toughest track it provided challenges and an good old fun time.

First played here in October 2000 for $75 and returned 16 years later to the same fantastic conditions for $79, just as I remembered them. Normal weekday AM pricing is around $129 which is overpriced to me being a Michigan based golfer on courses of the same caliber. Everything was softer due the rainy conditions but that helped keeping the ball in play but the rough was still deep and sticky. Fairways that look and receive the ball very well and large greens (Non-typical shaped) that rolled 8-10 depending on slope and contour where you landed. Played from the Tournament Tees @ 6,659yds / 125 / 71.5 and found myself shooting 42/42 w/37putts on a overcast Thursday afternoon. Look forward to playing #11/ par5 / 594yds with a double dogleg being a true 3 shots to get on a narrow green. Hopefully I will be returning in October to play the Brute course, which my friend John said is better because of the nine (9) holes that have water on them, I can't wait. Put this on your highway (I-94) golf stops when traveling into this area as you have five (5) tracks at Grand Geneva Resort to choose from with no waiting in the PM.
